Inversion roofs

Most often, flat roofs on wooden or concrete bases are chosen for the equipment of all kinds of recreation areas and other structures. But sometimes there are sloped options: they usually use a lawn covering.

According to the type of roofing pie, all roofs can be divided into two large categories:

traditional
inversion

The set of layers in the composition of the roofing cake in these two types is almost the same, only the sequence of their installation differs. In the first case, waterproofing is mounted on top of the insulation, protecting it from atmospheric influences. This is the only possible way to use mineral wool, as it loses its properties when wet.

In the traditional design of the roofing pie, the insulation is located under the waterproofing.

In the second case, on the contrary, the insulation is laid over the waterproofing, preventing its mechanical damage during operation and extending its service life. For this type of structure, only non-hygroscopic sheet materials - extruded polystyrene foam or foam glass - are used as thermal insulation.

On an inverted roof, the waterproofing is better protected from mechanical damage because it is under the insulation.

Usually, when using the term "exploited or inverted roof", we mean a flat covering of a building that is used for recreational or economic purposes. This architectural solution is increasingly used both for apartment buildings and public buildings. It makes it possible to increase the comfort of the urban environment, save space in densely populated neighborhoods, and diversify the urban landscape. Modern waterproofing, draining and heat-insulating materials allow you to create a strong, durable roofing cake that does not require frequent repairs and is economical to operate.

We can conditionally divide the operated roofs into the following types:

terrace roof (roof with natural or artificial covering for rest, walking, driving);
green roof (roof with a fertile layer and arranged lawns, flower beds);
roof-parking (additional place for parking cars);
roofs of the combined type.

There are five main types of inversion roof top layer:

A tile with various mounting options. If the roof will be used intensively, this is the best option, the coating is durable, easily tolerates sub-zero temperatures, withstands heavy pedestrian loads, and is easy to clean.
Terrace board or garden parquet. A logical choice for small terraces and recreation areas, especially in a private house. The terrace board is environmentally friendly, attractive both in appearance and in touch, and thanks to the application of bio- and moisture-protective compounds under pressure, it lasts for a very long time.
Rubber coating. It is placed under the play area for children and sports grounds. Thanks to its elasticity, the rubber allows you to avoid injuries in the event of an accidental fall.
Pebbles or crushed stone.
Lawn. Grass coverings are often used on operational roofs in large cities and expensive hotels to simulate the conditions of a country facility.

If for other types of roofs, mistakes made in the process of building a house can almost always be corrected after construction is completed, then for an exploited roof they can be fatal, the main features of the design of this type of building overlap are:

a small slope (1-5 degrees);
mandatory film waterproofing;
provision of water drainage with the help of funnels or scuppers;
heating of drainage elements in the cold season;
installation of additional ventilation of the heat-insulating layer (if necessary);
using only hard slab heaters.
